For the second year running, IA received an International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Georgia chapter b.o.b. award for its collaboration with digital creative agency SapientNitro. Winning top honors in the Sustainability/Large Corporate Project category, IA’s dynamic, varied scheme for SapientNitro’s Toronto office encourages spontaneous encounters and collaboration. The concept of light refracting through a prism informs every aspect of the spatial experience, from furniture layouts to the angled carpet patterns that radiate out from central hubs and up the walls. Color-changing LEDs bounce rays across the elevator lobby, dazzling guests and employees alike.

A custom communicating stair connects the two and a half contiguous floors, located in a newly constructed LEED Gold high-rise. Sustainable base building systems bolster IA’s innovative, energy-efficient design, which maximizes daylight and user control. Exposed shell and core elements treated as design features emphasize the structure’s pristine first-generation beauty. Portions of the raised floor system are also exposed, obviating the need for additional floor coverings (and adhesives).

Locally sourced materials and furnishings, including reclaimed wood and artisanal light fixtures, are heavily favored, as are rapidly renewable and recycled finishes like the rubber-cork acoustic wallcovering used in all conference and phone rooms.

The b.o.b. awards, which recognize design excellence and the promotion of creativity, were presented at IIDA Georgia’s annual gala on February 23. “This was a tough competition for us, with SapientNitro in the running against multiple LEED certified interiors projects. Winning in this category demonstrates that sustainable design can be achieved through innovation, and does not always require certification,” says IA Senior Designer Alexandra Markey. The honor builds on last year’s success: In 2016, IA Atlanta netted three b.o.b.s for SapientNitro projects in Santa Monica and Miami.
